GREG J. DUNCAN is distinguished professor in the School of Education at the University of California, Irvine. RICHARD J. MURNANE (Richard_Murnane{at}harvard.edu) is Thompson Professor of Education and Society at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Cambridge, Mass. Abstract In the second of a two-part series the authors focus on solutions to the effects of growing income inequality on the education and thus life chances of low-income students. Their report comes from the second part of their book, Restoring Opportunity: The Crisis of Inequality and the Challenge for American Education (Harvard Education Press, 2014). The authors proffer the work at three schools that are using research-based principals to successfully help students close learning gaps. They call on American education leaders to use the new and stronger, curricular scaffolding and assessments of the Common Core State Standards as well as greater funding where necessary. © 2014. « Previous | Next Article » Table of Contents This Article Phi Delta Kappan April 2014 vol. 95 no. 7 50-54 » AbstractFree Full Text Full Text (PDF) Classifications MORE FEATURES Services Tell a colleague about this article Alert me when this article is cited Alert me if a correction is posted Alert me when eletters are published Similar articles in this journal Similar articles in Web of Science Download to citation manager Responses Submit a response No responses published Citing Articles Load citing article information Citing articles via Web of Science Google Scholar Articles by Duncan, G.
