KATHY HINTZ (kathy.hintz{at}minotstateu.edu) is an assistant professor in education and social science at Minot State University, Minot, N.D. Abstract In June 2011, the Souris River flooded the city of Minot, N.D., destroying schools, businesses, and more than 4,000 houses. District administrators, staff, and teachers responded creatively to provide continuity for the students over a two-year period while three schools resided in temporary locations. The author details how the schools met these practical challenges and provides advice for schools on donations and creating a safe environment to help stressed children and staff focus on learning. © 2013. « Previous | Next Article » Table of Contents This Article Phi Delta Kappan December 2013/January 2014 vol. 95 no. 4 28-32 » AbstractFree Full Text Full Text (PDF) Classifications WHEN THE UNTHINKABLE STRIKES Services Tell a colleague about this article Alert me when this article is cited Alert me if a correction is posted Alert me when eletters are published Similar articles in this journal Similar articles in Web of Science Download to citation manager Responses Submit a response No responses published Citing Articles Load citing article information Citing articles via Web of Science Google Scholar Articles by Hintz, K.
