BRIAN C. GIBBS (briangibbs{at}earthlink.net) is a graduate student in curriculum and instruction in the School of Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Abstract Jerome Bruner’s time-honored conception of spiraling curriculum holds true as a form of organizing and delivering teaching and learning, but too much incorrect scaffolding occurs in delivering spiraled curriculum. What’s needed is descaffolding so that students can learn on their own.
